Our Chiropractic Techniques
The Diversified Technique
The Diversified Technique is the most commonly used chiropractic treatment; it involves the manipulation and adjustment of the spine and the extremities (ankles, hips, wrists, shoulders, etc). It is called Diversified because it is a combination of the best techniques from other methods of manipulation. The Diversified Technique involves the application of a gentle thrust over restricted joints with the goal of restoring normal range of motion in the joint.
The Diversified Technique has three main objectives. These are to restore spinal alignment, repair joint dysfunction, and enhance proper movement. It is used to treat many conditions including: low back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), shoulder pain, hip pain, disc protrusions, and many more.
Ask your doctor if your condition can be helped with chiropractic!
Webster Technique:
The Webster technique is a safe, gentle, specific chiropractic adjustment that facilitates the mother’s pelvic alignment and reduces tension/torsion on pregnancy-related ligaments. It is a great non-pharmaceutical method of relieving low back and hip pregnancy-related pain. The Webster Technique can help pregnant women who are experiencing: restless sleep, increased headaches, sciatica, upper back pain, and any other musculoskeletal condition experienced during pregnancy. We can start to perform the Webster Technique as soon as a woman discovers she is pregnant.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I’ve never been to a chiropractor before?
That’s okay — many of our patients are first-timers! We’ll explain every step of the process, answer your questions, and make sure you feel comfortable before beginning any treatment.
What should I expect during my first visit with a chiropractor?
Your first visit at Bixby Knolls Wellness Center is all about getting to know you and understanding your health needs. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by our friendly front desk team who will assist you with your new patient paperwork.
You’ll then meet with one of our chiropractors for a comprehensive consultation. We’ll take time to review your detailed health history, including any past injuries, current symptoms, lifestyle factors, and health goals. This is your opportunity to share any concerns or questions you have about chiropractic care.
Next, we’ll perform a physical examination which may include orthopedic, neurological, and chiropractic tests to assess your posture, range of motion, muscle strength, and spinal alignment. If needed, we may recommend additional imaging like X-rays for a clearer view of your spine.
After the evaluation, your chiropractor will explain their findings in easy-to-understand language and discuss a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. In most cases, if it’s safe and appropriate, we’ll begin with your first chiropractic adjustment or a gentle preliminary treatment to start relieving discomfort right away.
Our goal is for you to leave your first visit feeling informed, empowered, and confident about your path to better health.
What should I wear for my chiropractic appointment?
We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy movement. Avoid restrictive clothing or heavy accessories. Athletic wear or casual clothing is ideal for chiropractic adjustments.
How often will I need chiropractic adjustments?
The frequency of adjustments depends on your specific condition, goals, and how your body responds to care. Some patients benefit from weekly sessions initially, while others may require less frequent visits. Your chiropractor will create a customized treatment plan based on your specific needs and health goals.
Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?
Yes, chiropractic care is generally safe and beneficial during pregnancy. We use specialized techniques, like the Webster Technique, to support pelvic alignment and relieve pregnancy-related discomforts.
Always inform your chiropractor that you are pregnant so we can tailor your care appropriately.
Is chiropractic safe for children and seniors?
Absolutely. Chiropractic adjustments are safe for patients of all ages, from infants to seniors. Our chiropractors adjust techniques based on age, size, and health condition to ensure safe, gentle, and effective care for every individual.
Do you treat auto accident cases?
Yes! Our chiropractors and therapists are specially trained to treat injuries related to car accidents.
There are many ways to pay for this care and we're here to help guide you which option is best for you. We can: bill an auto insurance company (yours or the at-fault driver's), or work with your attorney on a lien basis, or collect self pay and provide superbills for reimbursement purposes, or in some select cases your health insurance might cover motor vehicle injuries.
Do you combine chiropractic care with other types of treatment?
Yes, we take a fully integrative approach to wellness. At Bixby Knolls Wellness Center, chiropractic care is often combined with complementary therapies such as massage therapy, acupuncture, therapeutic exercise, yoga, and Pilates to support your body’s natural healing process and enhance results.
Our team works collaboratively to create personalized care plans tailored to your specific needs, goals, and comfort level. For example, a patient with chronic back pain might benefit from chiropractic adjustments alongside targeted massage therapy and guided mobility exercises. Similarly, prenatal patients receiving the Webster Technique may also benefit from acupuncture or relaxation-based treatments.
Combining therapies helps ensure long-lasting relief, better movement, and overall wellness — all under one roof.
What’s the difference between chiropractic care and massage therapy?
Chiropractic care focuses on diagnosing and correcting musculoskeletal misalignments, particularly of the spine, to improve nervous system function and overall body mechanics. Massage therapy targets muscles and soft tissues to reduce tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. Many patients benefit from a combination of both for comprehensive wellness.
How long does it take to see results from chiropractic care?
Some patients experience relief after just one session, while others with chronic or complex conditions may require a longer course of care. Your chiropractor will track your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed to ensure you achieve the best possible outcomes.
Will my insurance cover chiropractic treatments?
Maybe! Some health insurance plans include coverage for spinal chiropractic adjustments only, other plans cover most of the therapeutic treatments that we offer.
The best way to find out what your health plan covers is to call the "member services" phone number on the back of your health insurance card. We perform a courtesy insurance verification after your first appointment is scheduled.
Don't fret, even if your plan does not cover chiropractic or we are out of network with your plan, our self pay rates are priced competitively so that you get the care that you need affordably!
Can I use my Medicare?
In many cases, yes! Just bear in mind Medicare plans will only cover your spinal adjustments (manipulations to your back). This means you will be responsible for paying for your initial exam (and re-exam) fees. This also means if you are coming in for an ailment of your arms, legs, knees, hands, jaw etc. you will incur additional out of pocket expenses.
One of our helpful front desk administrators will explain all of the Medicare rules and our pricing in great detail (and give you a written explanation as well).
We are out of network with the following Medicare Managed Care Primary Plans: Scan, Healthnet, AARP United Health Care advantage, Cigna, Humana, Kaiser, and Optum. This does not pertain to supplemental plans, we accept all supplements to Medicare Part B.
Where are you located?
We are located at 4301 Atlantic Avenue, STE 5, Long Beach, CA 90807, in the heart of the Bixby Knolls. We’re next door to the Expo Arts Center and across the street from EJ’s Pub. Free parking is available in the back lot, and there is additional street parking nearby.
